Shadows Fall s'est formé à Springfield (Massachusetts) en 1996 sous l'impulsion de
Jonathan Donais (guitare),
Matthew Bachand (guitare),
Phil Lebonte (chant),
Paul Romano (basse) et
David Germain (batterie). En 1997,
Shadows Fall autoproduit son premier album
Somber Eyes to the Sky. L'année suivante,
Phil Lebonte est remplacé par
Brian Fair (chant). En 1999,
Shadows Fall signe chez le label Century Media. L'année suivante, il sort son deuxième opus
Of One Blood. Dans la foulée,
David Germain laisse sa place à
Jason Bittner (batterie). En 2002,
Shadows Fall livre l'album
The Art of Balance. Il participe ensuite au festival américain Ozzfest. En 2004, le groupe sort
The War Within. Suivent
Fallout from the War (2006) et
Threads of Life (2007). Suit le best of
Seeking the Way (2007).
