3 Inches of Blood s'est formé en l'an 2000 à Vancouver (British Columbia) autour de Cam Pipes (chant), Jamie Hooper (chant), Sunny Dhak (guitare), Bobby Froese (guitare), Rich Trawick (basse) et Geoff Trawick (batterie). En 2002, le groupe sort son premier album Battlecry under a Wintersun. Il est édité l'année suivante aux Etats-Unis et en Europe. 3 Inches of Blood part alors en tournée avec The Darkness. En 2004, la formation signe un contrat chez le label Roadrunner Records. Parallèlement, Geoff Trawick et Rich Trawick sont remplacés par Matt Wood (batterie) et Brian Redman (basse). Sunny Dhak, Bobby Froese et Matt Wood quittent ensuite le groupe. Ils sont remplacés par Justin Hagberg (guitare), Shane Clark (guitare) et Alexei Rodriguez (batterie). 3 Inches of Blood sort alors son deuxième opus Advance and Vanquish (2004). En 2007, il revient avec Fire up the Blades produit par Joey Jordison (Slipknot). Suit Here Waits Thy Doom (2009).
