Jäje Johanson, alias Jay Jay Johanson, est né en 1969 à Trollhättan (Suède). Après avoir fréquenté une école d'art moderne à Stockholm, il se fait connaître en 1997 avec le single So Tell the Girls That I Am Back in Town et son premier album Whiskey. Suivent Tattoo (1998), Poison (2000), la BOF La Confusion des Genres (2000) et Antenna (2002). En 2004, Jay Jay Johanson sort la compilation Prologue: The Best of the Early Years 1996-2002. L'année suivante, il revient avec Rush. En 2007, Jay Jay Johanson signe The Long Term Physical Effects Are Not Yet Known. Deux ans plus tard, paraît un nouvel opus baptisé Self Portrait.
